It’s that time of year when many of us resolve to get in shape and shed a few pounds. Those of us at The Manor Group are part of that group of resolution makers and struggle with keeping up with our goals once the first few weeks of January have passed.
A commonly heard excuse for not going to the gym is lack of time. We are all super busy with kids, jobs and Netflix, right? Fortunately, we offer 24-hour access to our fitness center. It’s already free to our residents but we make sure it’s open all the time. No holiday closures or bad weather delays! Plus, if Netflix is still taking up too much of your free time, we provide complimentary WIFI so you can get your binge on while you work your bulge off!
Another way to keep yourself on track is to find a buddy. Walking club, Zumba classes and weight loss meetings are just a few of the wonderful community activities we have hosted so residents can get help in reaching their goals. Tell us what would help you stay accountable.
We wish you a fit and healthy 2017 and hope your resolutions become good habits. Remember that our pool season is just a few months away!
The holiday season brings favorite holiday traditions to Gateway Apartments. One of our most treasured is the Salvation Army Angel Tree we put up in our community building in November. Tags are placed on a small tree which indicate the first name, gender and age of a child, from newborn to 12 years old.
This year we were incredibly overwhelmed with the generosity of our residents! Donations of holiday gifts, clothing and coats were brought in by residents and team members. We delivered gifts for 40 are children to help make their holidays bright and warm.
At Gateway Apartments, we consistently strive to explore new ways of giving back to those in need. Each fall we team up with our sister community, East Mountain Apartments, to host a special dinner with all proceeds going to charity.
This year’s “Pasta with a Purpose” featured a takeout or delivery dinner consisting of penne pasta, meatballs, roll, salad, and cupcake. Over 200 dinners were prepared and $1200 was raised through the dinner and donations! This amount will be donated to the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute in honor of Ayden Kohler.
We are genuinely proud of our residents and what they continually accomplish for society!
If you ask our residents what they love most about living at Gateway Apartments many will tell you it’s our wonderful maintenance team! Here at Gateway Apartments our main focus is customer service and making sure our residents are taken care of, which includes apartment maintenance. Our maintenance team’s main priority is to solve any obstacle in a thorough and speedy manner.
Whether it is a clogged drain, burned out lightbulb or a jammed patio door, our team members are on the job within the day. Unlike regular maintenance technicians that require you to take off work and let them in your house, with your permission, our team can make a service call while you carry on with your day. Our technicians bring card to leave at your door after each call. This allows our residents to know when a member has stopped in and explains how they have resolved the concern.
There is also no need to worry about after hours calls. With our 24-hour emergency maintenance we always have a team member on call to help with lock-outs and other urgent service requests.
While we offer a calendar of fun events to keep our Gateway residents busy, there is a lot to explore in the local area.
Nicknamed the “Diamond City”, due to its coal mining and industrial roots, Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania holds the fourth largest workforce in Pennsylvania. About 60 new businesses, including Geisinger Health Systems, Blue Cross Health, and eBay, have settled here, creating 15,000 downtown employees. Wilkes-Barre is also known for it’s convenient “walk-to-everything” life style. Within the downtown Public Square, you can find both locally owned and nationally recognized restaurants, plus the seasonal Thursday Farmer’s Market.
For individuals who are less about the city life and more about enjoying nature, Wilkes-Barre has a variety of different parks. Kirby Park is the largest, at 52 acres and it’s right next door to Gateway Apartments. It is one of Wilkes-Barre’s most valued areas for relaxation. Here, one can partake in several different activities including tennis; fitness trails, walking paths, running tracks, softball, volleyball, and more. Also, Wilkes-Barre is only a short drive from the Pocono Mountains, known for romantic getaways and outdoor activities including adventure parks, biking, hiking, zip lining, paint-balling and horseback riding.

The holidays are approaching and it’s a great time to share some of our family traditions. Kelly Diltz, manager at Gateway Apartments, looks forward to celebrating with a blended Italian and Polish family.
They start with the Polish foods on Christmas Eve and save the the Italian foods for Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve, they have a traditional Polish Wigilia, a dinner in which no meat is eaten. It consists of several courses including fish, salads, pierogies and cabbage dishes, and always begins with this delicious mushroom soup.

We had a great time at Malotesi Wineries in the summer and we’re looking forward to our upcoming tour on Friday, October 16th.
Fall foliage will be at its peak for a wine/beer tasting trip and tour of Grovedale Winery and RiverBarge Brewing Company.
Gateway residents love it that we provide the transportation and snacks!
For many of our residents, summer is their favorite season at Gateway Apartments because they LOVE their swim club. Not only do they get to relax all season in a clean, quiet and lifeguard-attended pool but we also provide lots of fun in and around the water.
Water aerobics, BBQ & pizza parties and a late night live jazz swim are just a sampling of the community events that make summer special at Gateway!
Please join us for our Open House on Sunday, March 15, from 10-2 and Saturday, March 21, from 10-2.
